This Sunday, uShuni Womhlaba reaches a pivotal moment in the competition as the semi-finalists battle it out in a Genre Mash-up themed episode. The highly anticipated semi-final episode will be broadcast LIVE from TMF Studios on Sunday, 13 October 2024, on SABC 1 at 18:00.
As the competition heats up, the remaining four contestants are tasked with showcasing their musical versatility by blending genres in innovative ways. This week’s Genre Mash-up episode will allow each contestant to perform two sets of songs. In the first set, they will deliver a solo performance, selecting a song from the uShuni Womhlaba hero genres that best represents their artistic vision and creative style.
For the second set, the contestants will perform grand legendary duets, collaborating with some of South Africa’s iconic music legends. Each contestant will work alongside a legend, blending their unique modern sound with the timeless musicality of the legends they’re paired with. Contestants will pick their duet partner in a thrilling blind selection, adding an extra layer of excitement to this high-stake round.
As we edge closer to the grand finale, the competition has split the remaining contestants into the Blue Zone and Yellow Zone:
- Blue Zone Contestants: These are the top performers who have advanced to the semi-final stage. However, their journey to the finale is not guaranteed, as the final three contestants will be determined at the end of episode 15.
Blue Zone Contestants:
- Mthobisi Gudazi (aka Gudaazi)
- Lindokuhle Mthimunye (Lindo Jay Music)
- Thandikhaya Magayiyana (Joliza Bhacasoul)
- Yellow Zone Contestants: Two of the three contestants in the Yellow Zone will be sent home at the start of this week’s episode, leaving only one to join the contestants that are on the Blue Zone.
Yellow Zone Contestants:
- Marley-Girl Mokoena (aka Marley-Girl)
- Mzwandile Khuluse (aka Mike Makhosini)
- Sfiso Nene (aka Damase Ivulandlela)
The one contestant who survives the Yellow Zone will join the Blue Zone contestants, making a top 4. The Top 4 contestants will then battle it out throughout the Semi-Final episode for an opportunity to progress to the Grand Finale.
This semi-final episode promises to be a night of extraordinary performances, as the remaining contestants aim to impress both the judges and the nation. The genre mash-up will blend sounds from different eras within the uShuni Womhlaba hero genres, creating a distinctive musical offering that represents each contestant’s unique vision.
With the likes of Phuzekhemisi, Mahotella Queens, Dr. Buselaphi, and Dalom Kids performing alongside the contestants, audiences can expect powerful, genre-defying performances that celebrate the rich cultural diversity of South African music.
