uShuni Womhlaba, the ground-breaking new singing competition set to premiere on SABC 1 on 7 July 2024 and sponsored by Telkom, has announced a landmark partnership with Gallo Music, Africa’s longest-running independent recording label and music publisher.
Gallo Music’s involvement in uShuni Womhlaba will see them play a vital role from the start of the competition right through to the crowning of the winner, who will secure an esteemed recording deal with Gallo Music. This partnership will bring unparalleled expertise and support to the show, celebrating and embracing traditional South African music.
Throughout the show, contestants will have access to an extensive library of over 3000 songs from Gallo’s catalogue. This will provide a rich and diverse selection of tracks for the aspiring musicians to showcase their talents in genres such as Maskandi, Mbaqanga, Isicathamiya, Afro-pop, and other traditional music forms.

uShuni Womhlaba will be hosted by two of South Africa’s most beloved presenters. Ukhozi FM’s Mandla Magwaza, affectionately known by his listeners as “Njinji wami,” and Metro FM’s Mpumi Mlambo, aka “MSAKAZI,” will bring their charisma and experience to entertain the audience.
The versatile presenters will, on a weekly basis, keep South Africans glued to their screens as contestants battle it out for the coveted title.
The panel of judges features long-time fan favourite rapper and songwriter Big Zulu, talented composer and singer Msaki, multi-talented rapper, musician, actress, and poet Sho Madjozi, and veteran Maskandi musician Phuzekhemisi.
